The Drought Ends

I got quite a few instant messages tonight following the Warriors victory over the Portland Trailblazers to put them into the playoffs for the first time since 1994. I know a lot of you kiddies are excited; It's pretty much the first time your local b-ball team has made the playoffs in your whole lives almost.

For an old man like me, it's even more fun to reminisce just how long this drought has been.

So...turning on my way-back machine...where/what/how/who/why was I the last time the Warriors were making the playoffs...

In April 1994, I...

...was finishing up my high school career at Lowell High School. On to blue and gold...

...was 1/2 inch shorter, 25 lbs lighter. Think pre-roids McGwire.

...still had a tan. Think KevChuck now...

...had no idea what it felt like to fail a class. This changes a year later...

...cruised around in the family's 1978 Volvo 264GL sedan. Not that bad a ride, actually...

...hadn't yet met 90% of the people I hang with nowadays. None of that BFF junk for me...

...attending a different church. No comment.

...listened mainly to 106.1 and 107.7. Rick Chase...old school.

...had never used the internet. Very computer illiterate.

...watched Jason Kidd tear up the Pac-10 as a Cal Bear. Watched him leave for the NBA that year too...

...had never seen a BAD Forty-Niner team. Too spoiled...

...watched IN THEATERS: Forrest Gump, The Lion King, Pulp Fiction, Speed, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

...would've had an Ipod dominated by R&B (Babyface, BoyzIIMen, Mariah Carey,  All-4-One). Yes I admit, I had the All-4-One cd...

AND FINALLY

...had absolutely, positively, without a doubt, trulymadlydeeply, NO IDEA how jacked our team would be by trading for Chris Webber.

End.

STILL UP

Ugh. One thing I've always liked about my job is the predictability of regular hours. It's not often that I have to do work at home or on weekends, so usually when I leave the office, I always leave everything AT THE OFFICE. Today...er, tonight, is not one of those days/nights. It's almost 2am and I'm still cranking away (online, at home). Got a late start after dinner because I met with my accountant to finish up my taxes (I owe, also boo). Spent a half hour doing some paperwork, and been at my desk ever since. Ugh.

I feel like I'm in a Xanga entry by my old college roommate...except that I'm not hopped up on caffeine...and I don't randomly fall asleep...with my eyes open...and sometimes drool on my shirt...and deny it.

Wish we had ton of pics of that action...good stuff.

On a positive note, I've managed to up my treadmill mile times to 8min20sec/mile. Not too bad all in all; I await Gundy's scoffing.

KB's mom likes (loves) to quilt > KB's mom joins local quilt guild (not kidding, guilds still exist!) > KB's mom participates (featured guest) in local quilt guild quilt show > KB's mom requests (orders) family support > KB goes to early service (but is late for most of the worship) > KB goes home to shovel down non-carb lunch (seared ahi steak and spinach salad...mmm) > KB goes to quilt show (same route as work, four blocks away) > KB groans at lack of one day passes (ten bucks for entire weekend, even though it's Sunday) > KB checks out quilts (that he can see for free at home) > KB looks at other non-KB mom quilts that aren't as good (KB is not objective) > KB notices demographics (most attendees under 35 are related to KB) > KB plays with fat (needs South Beach too) nephew > KB goes to work out and recapture dudehood (grunt, grunt).

KB dislikes quilt shows, but is pretty dang proud of KB's mom. KB could prolly use a change of social life tho.

Note: KB does not usually write in third person, but felt it best for the narrative aspect.
